Hebrew Teacher and Judaics Coordinator, Grades K-6

Job Summary: This is a full-time position teaching Hebrew to students in Kindergarten through Grade 6, with responsibility for developing curriculum as well as planning and implementing Judaic education. We strive to cultivate a love of learning the Hebrew language and develop proficiency in the four skills of language acquisition: listening, speaking, writing and reading.

Our Campuses: Brawerman Elementary School is a Reform Jewish day school with two campuses. The West campus, located in West Los Angeles was founded in 1999. The East campus opened in fall 2011 in the heart of L.A.’s Koreatown, in the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach Hebrew as a Second Language each day
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction that provides purposeful, active, and engaging learning experiences
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
  • Act as a liaison between the Judaics team and the rest of the faculty position
  • Use appropriate classroom management strategies so that boundaries are clear and students feel comfortable and able to learn
  • Lead weekly Havdalah services (Mondays)
  • Lead weekly T’filah learning
  • Support Torah Limmud (torah learning) blocks           
  • Coordinate Jewish holiday celebrations with support from administrators and teachers
  • Provide support to classroom teachers as needed to enrich their Judaic Studies curriculum and teaching

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient Hebrew speaker
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or Jewish Education
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Interest and commitment to innovative methods for instruction in second-language acquisition
  • Flexible thinker
  • Team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with a variety of Hebrew language curricula
